Chelsea are planning to make a ‘statement signing’ to replace current star Willian.
That’s according to transfer expert Duncan Castles, who believes that the Blues are preparing for the Brazilian’s exit in the summer when his current contract expires.
Castles believes that one winger who Chelsea are keen on is Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho.
He claims that Roman Abramovich and Marina Granovskaia are keen on signing the England international as their ‘statement signing’.
Talking on Reach PLC’s Transfer Window Podcast, cited by the Daily Express, Castles said:
Their priority is on the wing, where they envisage losing Willian because they have offered Willian a new contract but only a one-year contract because of his age.
Chelsea are preparing for his exit. I’m told they are focusing on wingers at present. One of those strong options for them is Jadon Sancho.
My understanding is the club, i.e. Roman Abramovich and Marina Granovskaia, are very keen on taking Sancho. They’re keen on making a statement signing.
If Castles is correct, then the Blues could well rival Manchester United for the 19-year-old, with reports claiming the Red Devils are expected to move for Sancho in the summer.

On paper, a Sancho swoop makes perfect sense to us.
Frank Lampard has worked wonders with plenty of young English stars in recent months, with Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount, Fikayo Tomori and Reece James all breaking through this season, so Sancho could prove to be the next ace to shine under Lampard’s guidance.
Sancho is more established at the top level than the young Chelsea quartet, with the teenager scoring 25 goals and providing 30 assists in 75 Dortmund appearances to date.
He could be the next Englishman to shine at Stamford Bridge, should he complete a move, and in our opinion, would slot into the Blues’ attack with ease.
His direct approach, blistering pace and impressive goal involvement record, in our eyes, would see him complete an exciting front four alongside Mount, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Abraham.
To us, it would be a ‘statement signing’ that Abramovich and Granovskaia are seemingly hoping for, however, in our opinion, Chelsea fans shouldn’t be getting ahead of themselves just yet.
