Team News – Match Reports – Player Ratings
Match: Standard Liege v Arsenal
Venue: Stade Maurice Dufrasne, Liege
Kick-Off (UK Time): 17:55 12/12/2019

Here’s how we rate Freddie Ljungberg and the Arsenal players:
Freddie Ljungberg – 4
Not his best night. Freddie Ljungberg shuffled his pack and Arsenal certainly played like it. The Gunners lacked any plan in attack and the defensive chaos put this one in doubt. He made a lot of changes and it didn’t work out for him.
Emiliano Martinez – 4
He didn’t have his best night. Emiliano Martinez really should’ve done better with that second Standard goal.
Sokratis Papastathopoulos – 4
It was another poor performance from Sokratis. The Greek defender was chasing the game all night long and was rightly replaced.
Sub: Gabriel Martinello (68′) – 6
Gabriel Martinelli had a few good moments after coming off the bench. He showed desire and worked hard throughout.
David Luiz – 4
Not a good night for him.
Dinos Mavropanos – 5
Dinos Mavropanos looked okay coming back into the side. The Greek defender was a little unfortunate with that deflection for the second goal.
Ainsley Maitland-Niles – 5
He had some good moments. Ainsley Maitland-Niles defended fairly well for most of this match.
Sub: Calum Chambers (77′) – 5
He did okay.
Joe Willock – 5
It was a bit of a strange one for him. Joe Willock had a few good moments in the first half, particularly moving forward but his defensive work wasn’t up to scratch today. He was slow to get out to the ball for the first goal.
Matteo Guendouzi – 5
A quiet one. Matteo Guendouzi worked hard enough but couldn’t really make an impact on the game.
Bukayo Saka – 9
It was an excellent performance from Arsenal’s saviour. Bukayo Saka was one of the best players on the pitch in the first half but he came alive after being moved further forward. His goal was a brilliant strike but if anything, his assist was even better. That cross for Alexandre Lacazette was simply perfect.
Reiss Nelson –
Alexandre Lacazette – 6.5
He would have hardly convinced Freddie Ljungberg tonight. Alexandre Lacazette needed to perform to win back his starting spot in the Premier League but it was from his best night despite the goal.
Emile Smith Rowe – 7
He did well. Emile Smith Rowe was Arsenal’s best player in the first half, linking up play and running for the ball. The Englishman’s performance level did drop after the break but there was still a lot to like about his match.
Sub: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (85′) – N/A
Barely involved.
