Manchester United fans were quickly deflated after their 1-0 loss to Bournemouth having seemingly begun to get a head of steam going.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men drew with Liverpool and defeated Partizan, Norwich and Chelsea in back to back matches to suggest they we’re finally building some momentum.
Unfortunately it all came apart against Bournemouth with United looking unlikely to score all match long despite having plenty of time to net an equaliser.
In truth, Eddie Howe’s men shouldn’t have even gotten the opener with Joshua King allowed to bring down the ball in the penalty box and swivel and score despite being surrounded by his opponents.
It was an unusual piece of defending by the Red Devils and it ultimately cost them all three points.

1-0 FT.
Can't beat a team who sits back. So much work to be done.
One step forward two steps back. The lack of quality is so evident when we can't play on the counter.Wounded. #MUFC pic.twitter.com/hIAU2RPT94

Dreadful and dispiriting performance from #MUFC. Haven’t won consecutive games in the Premier League since March now. Simply don’t have the tools to break down sides who sit back. Worse all they’ve been beaten today by a resoundingly average side in Bournemouth.

We’re back to normal again. Solskjaer can smile and applaud all he wants but he should be inches away from getting sacked at this point. This was just one of plenty horrific performances this season.
Need a miracle to get Top 6 at this point. Not good enough. #mufc

Momentum lasted a week and now that’s well and truly dead. 3 results and only one helped our league, still closer to the relegation battle than Top 4. That’s why none of us were overhyping the results, an embarrassment of a performance. #mufc

That wasn’t a West Ham but was an appalling result for United against a workhorse team. Players were too fixed, changes didn’t come soon enough and the first was just like for like. A day of regression. #mufc

Now Manchester United have the chance to bounce back in the Europa League but the truth was they need results in the Premier League more so than anywhere else.
After all, Solskjaer’s job will depend on how well they do in the league unless he manages to put in an unlikely cup challenge and win a trophy in Europe to qualify for the Champions League.
United are clearly having teething problems but they shouldn’t be as bad as they have been at times this season.
