Hector Bellerin has spoken after making his first appearance as Arsenal captain on his return from injury (via Arsenal.com).
It was such a pleasing night on Thursday for Gunners fans who saw their side put in a showcase of attacking excellence.
But there were also some more personal highlights with some players making major steps in their return from injuries.
Rob Holding and Kieran Tierney got 90 minutes under their belt, as did Hector Bellerin who also captained the side for the first time.
“For me there’s not a better way to come back, I feel very honoured to wear the Arsenal armband and to lead the team out the tunnel,” Bellerin said after the match.
“I’m very grateful that my team-mates and the coaches trust me to do that.
“It’s been a tough road for me for the past eight months but I feel very lucky with the people that I had around me and all the physios and the coaches and all the players and obviously my friends and family have helped me a lot.
“Even though it’s been very dark at times, it’s very beautiful to be able to make a debut [as captain] and play a game like this, and enjoy my football like that.”
Hector Bellerin put in a fine performance and it was great to see him back on the pitch. That was made all the sweeter with Bellerin acting as the side’s captain for the night. He’s clearly respected by the players and staff at the club and is certainly a long-term candidate for the armband.
