Daniel James has been handed Manchester United’s ‘Player of the Month’ award for August following an excellent opening few weeks under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The Welshman, who became Solskjaer’s first signing at Old Trafford in June, came off the bench to score on his Premier League debut against Chelsea.
In poor performances against Crystal Palace and Southampton, James was the club’s shining light going forward, lashing home a goal in each game – the last of which a real thing of beauty at St Mary’s.
The club confirmed on social media on Friday that James had indeed won his first ‘Player of the Month’ award in his opening month as a United player.

If you want proof that Solskjaer has the right idea going forward, you only need to look at the signings he’s made this summer, and how, really, the only three players deserving of the award are James, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Harry Maguire.
There were doubts about James’ conviction in the final third and whether Premier League football may be too demanding for a 21-year-old who came from the Championship. What has transpired, however, is the opposite: James is playing with seniority, while others like Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata look lost.
You can only hope that James’ spirit and fearlessness filters through to the rest of his teammates against Leicester City and beyond.
