Solskjaer reveals these two Man United academy products will stay

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed Angel Gomes and Tahith Chong won’t be sent out on loan as he expects them to say and make an impact this season.

The young pair impressed during the club’s pre-season tour with fans excited by their obvious potential.

There’s certainly room for Chong and Gomes though it could be debated the former has more of an opportunity to prove his worth than the latter.

The right-wing in particular is up for grabs and there’s no reason why the sensational Dutchman can’t make it his own.

Gomes has a bigger fight on his hands in dismantling both Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata for the attacking-midfield position, though he’s also capable on either flank.

According to the club’s official website, Solskjaer said: “No [Gomes and Chong won’t be sent on loan]. To be honest, I can see them staying here and making a proper impact.

“They have already, on pre-season, and they did so in February, March and April. They did well in training but we never gave them enough game time.

“Pre-season has shown they have grown over the last six months and they are getting used to men’s football. They will get opportunities.”

Solskjaer’s squad is a youthful one with pathways to the starting XI clearer now than it ever has been.

Hopefully the likes of Chong, Gomes and Mason Greenwood take their opportunities because the talent is certainly there.

United’s squad is one lacking of proper experience and leadership and so the youngsters will need to rise to the occasion.

It’s clear Solskjaer is transitioning his squad so there can’t be huge expectations placed on them despite the obvious frustrations of the fans.
