Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has congratulated Manchester United over the completion of the Harry Maguire transfer and revealed why his own side failed in their pursuit.
Both Manchester clubs were said to be chasing the talented Englishman’s signature all summer long but it’s Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side who have come out on top.
City won a host of trophies last season and could’ve guaranteed Maguire Champions League football but it appears they didn’t have the cash to really convince Leicester City to sell.
The towering centre-back seemed keen on a move to either side though reports claimed he preferred the red half of Manchester.
In the end, despite initially failing to see eye to eye, United managed to have a breakthrough in their negotiations with the Foxes and now Maguire is all but confirmed as a Red Devil.
Pep Guardiola on Harry Maguire: "Top class player. We were interested but we could not afford it. #mufc could afford it. Congratulations to United on this signing." #mulive [times]

It’s not the first time City have refused to spend over their own evaluation of a target so it’s no surprise to see them do the same with Maguire.
It’s unlikely Guardiola meant they didn’t have the funds as they’ve been a free-spending club for over a decade now with no issues.
United have been criticised a little over how much they spent on Maguire but time will tell if the money will matter or not.
