Brighton & Hove Albion are reportedly plotting a loan move for Chelsea outcast Danny Drinkwater, as manager Graham Potter seeks late additions to his squad ahead of what is set to be a challenging season.
Drinkwater was left out of Frank Lampard’s squad for the final pre-season friendly against Borussia Monchengladbach alongside Tiemoue Bakayoko after the duo were told offers for their services will be considered.
According to the Mail on Sunday, Potter wants to add a striker and anchorman in midfield to his ranks before Thursday’s transfer deadline so Brighton have made a ‘tentative’ approach to recruit him on loan.
The 29-year-old arrived at Stamford Bridge for £35million in 2017 after helping Leicester City win the Premier League, signing a five-year contract which he still has three years left to run down.
He featured just once under Maurizio Sarri last season, in the Community Shield defeat to Manchester City 12 months ago, and was charged with drink driving in April.
A move to the AMEX Stadium could revitalise his stagnated career though, and if he impresses on a temporary basis it could result in a second chance under Lampard upon his return.
