Manchester United are unlikely to complete any further signings before the transfer window closes at 17:00 today, according to the BBC.
Some talk exists over potential deals for stikers Mario Mandzukic, Fernando Llorente and Inaki Williams, but none of these are likely to go through.
Virtually nothing is being reported about United moving for a central midfielder, despite the fact that Ander Herrera and Marouane Fellaini both – technically – still require replacing.
Ahead of what is usually an exciting day for a football fan, the ever-reliable Simon Stoney has dropped a bomb on us all.
Man Utd not completely given up on signings but not looking likely at this stage.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has overseen three important additions but United, once again, have fallen well short of others in terms of ambition. Leicester City, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Everton are all clubs to have displayed greater intent in this window. It is telling that some supporters are looking at those teams as potential challenges to United’s league position next season.
There is not much Ole can do. He knows the scale of the work that needs to be done and is, I’m sure, privately fuming at how sluggish this club can be in the transfer market. Perhaps this season is the time to make a genuine statement and load the starting XI with youngsters.
