David de Gea 6 – Made one impressive low reflex save from Dele Alli, but was not required aside from that.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka 7 – Very solid once again. Held his defensive position nicely and used the ball smartly.
Chris Smalling 6 – Mostly in control against a Tottenham Hotspur side lacking equal fitness levels. Had a couple of moments where he lost track of Harry Kane and then Dele.
Marcos Rojo 6 – Surprisingly did not try to kill anyone, unlike some Spurs players, and was in fact largely composed aside from losing his position for one dangerous chance which Dele missed.
Ashley Young 7 – An impressive display from the often criticised captain. Delivered some excellent crosses and looked energetic.
Scott McTominay 7 – Quietly very effective. Made a number of clever interceptions and physically bullied Moussa Sissoko.
Andreas Pereira 7 – Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would have loved this performance. Playing a high-intensity 4-3-3, the Brazilian played a key role in United’s pressing, which neutered Spurs in the first 45 minutes. Produced a wonderful assist.
Paul Pogba 6 – Had a slightly slow start but grew confidently into the midfield battle, almost scoring from distance with a powerful shot.
Mason Greenwood 5 – Deployed on the right-hand side and did not see much of the ball. Game seemed to pass him by.
Daniel James 6.5 – Some of his close-control needs work but his sheer thrust on the counter is terrifying. Almost provided a lovely assist for Martial.
Anthony Martial 7 – Caused Spurs all sorts of problems with his direct running, hitting the post once and later scoring from a tight angle.
Substitutes
Luke Shaw 5 – Looked slightly off the pace against an improved second-half Spurs team. Culpable in the leadup to Lucas Moura’s goal.
Eric Bailly N/A – Went off injured after less than ten minutes on the field. Sometimes, life really is quite predictable.
Victor Lindelof 6 – Found himself under the pump at various points but was without doubt the calmest of United’s defenders.
Diogo Dalot 6 – Displayed good energy, tracking back with enthusiasm and looking to overlap, but occasionally lacked discipline with the ball.
Fred 6.5 – The sharpest of the United midfielders, threading through a selection of clever passes to Jesse Lingard and Angel Gomes.
Nemanja Matic 5 – Once again too slow for a rejuvenated Spurs midfield. Lost possession in the leadup to Moura’s goal.
Juan Mata 5.5 – Produced some nice touches here and there but never quite looked to be in the groove of proceedings.
Jesse Lingard 5 – Started the half positively with a brilliant run down the middle, but offered little after that.
Marcus Rashford 5.5 – Did not see the ball very much at all, with United losing their momentum in the second half, but did produce the occasional clever touch to link up play in the final third.
Angel Gomes 6 – Had a relatively quiet half until, in a moment of superb close control, the youngster jinked into the box and slid the ball under the keeper to restore United’s lead. Youth continues to lead the way on this tour.
