Manchester United may have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Leicester City’s Harry Maguire unless they step up their efforts.
The Foxes are said to be confident on holding onto their key player as it appears Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men are struggling to meet their evaluation of him.
The two clubs are understood to be some way apart in terms of negotiations and so it seems the transfer will either fizzle out or go down right to the wire.
United are already on their pre-season tour having defeated Perth Glory so far and so Solskjaer must be disappointed to not having his signings wrapped up by now.
The centre-back would add definite quality to the Norwegian’s starting XI but there are question marks over his asking price.
According to the Telegraph, Leicester believe Maguire will remain with them unless their £75m asking price is met as he has not shown signs of forcing through a move.
The Red Devils could find cheaper alternatives elsewhere though they may not fit Ole’s transfer policy of young, emerging, British talent.
Declan Rice is perhaps the only English centre-back of note in terms of potential and it’s already been made clear that West Ham will not sell.
