Manchester United have received a boost in their race for Leicester City’s Harry Maguire as he has reportedly asked his club to not stand in his way for a move.
The Englishman has been involved in a summer full of speculation with both Manchester clubs said to be chasing his signature.
The centre-back’s impressive performances for Leicester as well as England has gained him plenty of attention from sides looking to improve their defence.
United’s leaky backline is in desperate need of investment with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer already signing Aaron Wan-Bissaka but a central defender is believed to be needed next.
Maguire would add definite quality to the Norwegian’s squad and would quite easily walk right into the starting XI.
Can confirm Harry Maguire has told #lcfc management and players he wants to pursue a move to #mufc or #mcfc if the valuation (£80m-£90m) is met. Leicester expect him to be professional if a move doesn’t materialise before the transfer deadline

It also has be stressed this wasn’t a formal transfer request and #lcfc have promised not to stand in his way if the valuation is met.

The ball is now in the Red Devils’ court who have to decide whether or not to break the bank for Harry.
City have reportedly refused to become involved in a bidding war so it’s likely that they’ve already pulled out of the race.
Selling Marcos Rojo and one of Chris Smalling or Phil Jones could soften the blow in terms of the money spent on Maguire.
However, Manchester United have struggled to offload their unwanted stars so far this summer so there’s no guarantee any of them will end up leaving.
