Chelsea have not yet initiated contact with Mateo Kovacic over a permanent move to the club, according to a report from Goal.
Previous claims had suggested that the Blues were intending to secure the services of the Croatian midfielder following his loan spell at the club under Maurizio Sarri last season.
However, Goal claims that the Blues have not been in touch with Kovacic yet, and his future this summer remains in the balance.
The midfielder is currently on the books of Real Madrid, but Los Blancos appear intent on allowing him to depart this summer as they aim to fund more big-money moves.
Kovacic was liked by Sarri during his season at Stamford Bridge, but with Chelsea currently without a manager and Frank Lampard’s view on the Croatia international unclear, a permanent move is by no means a certainty.
AC Milan and Inter Milan have, as per Goal, been touted with moves for the 25-year-old, who will only be able to sign for the Blues permanently if a transfer is tied up in the next seven days.
