PSG star Thomas Meunier has broken his silence on a potential move to Manchester United after rumours surfaced on their interest.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was said to have turned to the Belgian after becoming frustrated with Crystal Palace’s unreasonable negotiations regarding Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
The youngster was believed to be United’s first-choice for the right-back position but the London club are under no pressure to sell.
Meunier only has a year left to his contract and so a deal for him would’ve potentially been cheap.
Solskjaer though may have to find an alternative to his back-up plan after the defender’s recent comments suggesting there is no transfer.
According to Manchester Evening News, Thomas said: “I want to stay. We have been talking about a contract extension for a while, but there’s no offer on the table anymore.
“I’m ready to stay in Paris. Everybody knows.”
The only way this works out for Manchester United is if PSG don’t offer a contract extension, then they can swoop in for Meunier.
The figures mentioned are around £25m which is pretty cheap for a quality defender with the international experience he has.
Thomas also still has his best years ahead of him which would mean the deal represents good value for money.
Diogo Dalot can also learn from the 27 year old before attempting to take over the right-back role himself.
On the other hand United can’t sit around and wait to see how Meunier’s future develops so they may be better off finding alternatives.
