Newcastle United star Sean Longstaff has shut down rumours to Manchester United amid reports emerged of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s interest.
The Englishman fits the Norwegian’s mould of players he wanted to sign in young, talented stars full of potential.
Solskjaer is said to be keen on a midfielder this summer and so the interest in the youngster makes complete sense.
Longstaff was believed to be keen on the move but it appears that isn’t quite the case, forcing the club legend to reconsider his targets.
Perhaps Ole would’ve felt the 21 year old would come relatively cheap yet the reality has proven to be far from it.
According to the Mirror, Sean said: “It shows how far I have come. If someone told me at the start of the season I’d be getting linked with these teams I ‘d have laughed.
“It is flattering to have your name in these conversations. You have nice stuff said about you and get linked with top clubs, but for me I have only wanted to play for Newcastle.
“I have had a small taste of it, and I want more. I want to get fit and be in for a whole season.”
It’s clear Manchester United are better off looking elsewhere, at least for the time being.
PSG’s Adrien Rabiot has been linked with a move to Old Trafford and given he’d be a free signing, he could prove to be quite the bargain.
Sporting Lisbon’s Bruno Fernandes and Lyon’s Tanguy Ndombele have also been targeted by United according to reports and although they’d cost plenty more, they do have more potential.
Ander Herrera‘s confirmed departure means Solskjaer does need to sign a replacement though he would’ve preferred to have focussed on other positions.
