Chelsea have issued a warning to Atletico Madrid, claiming that they will cancel Alvaro Morata’s loan agreement if the Spanish club don’t turn his move permanent this summer, according to a Telegraph Sport exclusively.
The Spain international joined Atletico on an 18-month loan in January, and the Blues still possess the ability to recall the forward early this summer, despite his arrangement still having another year to go.
With the Blues unable to spend money this summer due to a transfer ban, they are demanding that Atletico pay £50million to turn Morata’s move permanent or they will be forced to bring him back to secure their assets.
This could prove to be problematic for Atletico, with the La Liga outfit close to confirming the £112.9million deal for young Benfica star Joao Felix, meaning the club will be forced to sell to raise cash to sign the former Real Madrid man.
Morata, who signed for Chelsea for £60million two summers ago, has made it clear that he wants to remain with Atletico beyond the transfer window deadline this summer.
While Morata’s departure was primarily linked to his falling out with manager Maurizio Sarri, a return now would still be difficult despite Sarri leaving, with Morata having hit out at his former teammates and at Chelsea fans.
