Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer joked with the media, claiming based on what they’ve reported, the club will sign 250 players.
The Norwegian has a crucial summer ahead of him with fans expectedly waiting for a squad overhaul after a disappointing season.
The way the campaign ends is hardly the former Molde boss’ fault but supporters still believe the current crop of players need improving.
Solskjaer has already spoken about the need to invest smartly rather than just signing players with no real plan.
However, with no director of football hired yet, there has been a concern the club legend won’t be able to conduct his business efficiently.
According to Teamtalk, Ole said: “I’ll have a final say if players come in or go out, yeah, and we’ve got regular meetings.
“I’m happy with the way it’s going. We’re supposed to sign 250 players… hopefully we can get players in that you haven’t written about as well. You never know.”
It’s good news that Solskjaer will get to pick and choose his signings but the need for a director of football has been apparent for quite some time.
The club need a transfer policy and a structure that will help them bring success consistently in the future.
Manchester United have often been rightfully accused of having no transfer strategy and that has shown with the lack of effective signings since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement.
Hopefully Ole can get the players he wants but hopefully the board can also hire a director of football before it’s too late.
