Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri has confirmed to reporters that defender David Luiz has been in talks with the Blues about signing a new deal at Stamford Bridge, Goal report.
The 32-year-old, who is in the third year of his second stint at the club, played every minute of Chelsea’s Europa League semi-final first leg draw against Eintracht Frankfurt on Thursday.
Luiz’s current Chelsea deal expires at the end of the season and many have been left wondering if the central defender will depart Stamford Bridge for a second time when his contract expires.
However, talking after Chelsea’s 1-1 draw in Germany, Sarri confirmed that Luiz has been in talks with the Blues over a potential new deal, but admitted he didn’t know the outcome of any opening talks.
I don’t know on David Luiz [staying].
I know that he had a meeting four or five days ago, but then my mind was on this match. I didn’t ask him the result of it. If you want, I will ask him [on Friday].
The Brazil international, who spent two years with French giants Paris Saint-Germain in between his two Chelsea stints, recently admitted he is enjoying playing under Sarri, which could result in the defender signing a new deal.
