Tottenham star Toby Alderweireld has broken his silence on where his future may be next season after reports linked him with a move to Manchester United.
The Belgian has been backed to move to Old Trafford for two seasons now with interest originally beginning during Jose Mourinho’s era.
United’s defensive woes saw them turn to the experience of the centre-back who would’ve added some steel to their leaky backline.
It was also believed that Alderweireld has a relatively cheap release clause and so a move seemed possible before nothing came of it.
With the Red Devils still keen on strengthening defensively, the 30 year old’s name has popped up once more though he denies any desire to leave.
According to the Mail, Toby said: “I’m going to say the same thing that I’ve been saying for the past couple of years.
“The only focus is Spurs, because of this focus I think I had a good season as well.
“I have one year left on my contract, so in my head, I will play for Spurs next season.”
Alderweireld doesn’t fit the kind of signing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is said to be keen on but perhaps his quality and price would’ve been too tempting to ignore.
The Norwegian has previously said he’s looking to sign young, talented, British players who would grow with the club.
However, with Manchester United seemingly being out-priced out of every potential move, turning to Toby would’ve been seen as an option.
Now though it’s clear he would rather remain in London and so Solskjaer is better off looking for other targets.
