Manchester United star Marcos Rojo has admitted he hopes to one day return to his home country amidst rumours of him potentially departing this summer.
The Argentine has struggled to make an impact since suffering a difficult injury during Jose Mourinho’s first season in charge.
Ironically that was the centre-back’s best performing campaign since joining the club under Louis van Gaal‘s management.
It’s believed that Rojo’s fitness issues and poor form has made him United most expendable defender, particularly since they’re overstocked with options at the moment.
Phil Jones, Chris Smalling, Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly are the remaining players capable of playing in the heart of the defence, leaving little room for the former Sporting Lisbon man.
According to Manchester Evening News, Marcos said: “I would like to play at Estudiantes again”.
It’s difficult to envision a future at Manchester United for the 29 year and it’s expected he will leave this summer.
As has been the case of late, the club have struggled to let go of their overpaid players and it’s believed Rojo is in the same boat.
With Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said to be keen on signing a proven centre-back as well as promote youngsters such as Axel Tuanzebe or Timothy Fosu-Mensah, it could be that Marcos isn’t the only defender to leave this summer.
