Sporting Lisbon star and Manchester United target Bruno Fernandes has admitted to dreaming of playing in England one day.
The Portuguese emerged as a target of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer during the past few months with many expecting a bid to be placed at any day.
While some reports claimed the Norwegian is looking to address the defence and midfield, others have stated he’s also searching for a right-winger and an attacking midfielder.
Given the 20 goals and 13 assists he’s managed in 33 games playing in his home country, it’s little surprise that Solskjaer has identified Fernandes for the number 10 role.
With Juan Mata reportedly set to leave at the expiry of his contract this summer, it makes even more sense for United to chase the 24 year old’s signature.
According to Manchester Evening News, Bruno said: “For now I have a contract and everything that might happen, will have to come in time.
“Right now I’m focused on the ambitions of Sporting, which are mine. I honestly don’t know anything else.
“I always said that I came back to Sporting because they have ambitions like the ones I have. I said that I would leave Sporting once my ambitions were greater than those of the club, but they are not at the moment.
“The ambition to be national champion is still here and so I have no reason to leave. Obviously if an irrefutable proposal for me arrives, and it’s good for the club, let’s get together and decide together.
“I always said that I was an ambitious player and from a very early age I have a dream of playing in England, where you can live pure football without big controversy, without big cases.
“Now, any of the other leagues, Germany, Spain and Italy are also very good and ambitious. But as I said I’m good at Sporting and now I’m focused on the cup. Then I want to make a good pre-season and if anything comes up I’m available to do what is best for the club.”
It’s certainly a ‘come and get me’ plea from Fernandes but it’s not that straightforward for Manchester United.
Ole’s priority should be his defence and even if it’s not, it’s been said that Manchester City are also keen on the playmaker.
Unfortunately the Citizens would be able to offer Bruno more than United as trophies are almost guaranteed while there’s also Champions League football to contend with.
However, what the Red Devils do have going in their favour is the opportunity to be a part of their revival and the guarantee of starting minutes in comparison to City’s strong squad.
