Harry Maguire of course would be a more than welcome addition to the Arsenal line-up, and while he probably doesn’t fall under the ‘world-class’ category, he would almost certainly solidify the back-line for Unai Emery.
Toby Alderwieireld at Tottenham though looks to be a no-go option, fans wouldn’t be particularly keen on such a move and while he would be a reliable and experienced signing, the Belgian isn’t likely to move to an arch-rival at this stage.
Kurt Zouma and Djene Dakonam certainly would raise eyebrows if either were signed – neither would really send a message to rivals that the Gunners mean business ahead of the manager’s second full season in-charge.
Missing out on Champions League football for another season will reportedly only hand Emery a £40 million transfer kitty, before future sales, hardly enough to go sign a big-name defensive signing – unlikely to be enough to sign Maguire for a start.
