Chelsea loanee Michael Hector has won Sheffield Wednesday’s Player of the Year award after the club has recognised his defensive talents.
The centre half joined Wednesday last summer on loan and has since become a key player in Steve Bruce’s side, making 38 appearances for the Championship side.
Sheffield Wednesday registered their 10th clean sheet against Bristol City, with Michael Hector playing a big part in nine of those and only losing twice to Leeds and Aston Villa, who have both finished in play-off places.
As reported by Chelsea’s official website, Hector has also been recognised by others, such as the Sheffield Star, the London Owls, the West Midlands Owls, Sheffield Sports Commentaries and the Owls Foundation, who all voted Hector as their Player of the Year.
The 26-year-old is yet to play for Chelsea, with his loan expiring this summer. However Bruce has expressed his fondness of the player, stating he would love for him to become a permanent Owls player.
But with Chelsea’s ability to transfer players under threat as their embargo looms, boss Maurizio Sarri will be looking to keep hold of as many players as possible; offering a small glimmer of hope to Hector’s chances at Stamford Bridge.
Sheffield Wednesday have one game remaining with a chance to solidify ninth place in the league, should they win all three points against QPR.
