The end of the season is nearly upon us, but before the players hang up their boots for a well-earned rest, there is still time for a Manchester Derby as the two teams clash once more at United’s home ground. In the last of the games, tensions are high, and both sides have an agenda in mind. Bonusbets.com looks at their season and the chances of a red or blue win.
It is now a foregone conclusion that City will finish in the top two places; however, there is still a battle for the trophy as Liverpool have stuck close and currently sit at the top of the table with just two points between them and a game in hand for City when this article was written. For United the rags to riches story has been shaken, and some pundits fear we are seeing a crash down as their last few games have not been so good; however, they are still in the fight for the top four, being just 2 points behind Chelsea and Arsenal, and having a game in hand over Chelsea. Tottenham currently seems to be holding third place comfortable although they are just one point ahead.
United
To say it has been a rollercoaster ride this season for the Old Trafford team is something of an understatement. Sacking their manager at the beginning of 2019 Mourinho was replaced by temporary caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Initially, the turn-around was remarkable with a stellar winning streak that seemed unbreakable. They shot up the table and managed to secure fourth place, if only briefly, in a move that Mourinho himself had stated would need a miracle to achieve. Their new manager seemed to instantly gel with the team, and winning came easy, leaving Mourinho eating his words. However, things did not last, and games started to end in defeat, but they have managed to keep themselves in the mix for the top four. The reds have been stuck in sixth place for a while now, but on paper, the maths still shows they can finish in the top four Champions League places, however for this Derby they are not favourite to win.
City
Last season City lifted the silverware and finished top of the table, so a double is going to be high on their agenda as they take to the pitches for their last few games. Pep Guardiola has steered his team well this season, and they are not only within striking distance of the Premier League but stand a chance at the Champion’s League, Carabao Cup & FA Cup. A stunning four that would undoubtedly seal their place in the history books if they could achieve it. For this match they are the clear favourites to win, all of their last five games have been wins, and they show no sign of weakness or backing down. They have 5/1 odds of pulling the win from the bag.
