Manchester United fans couldn’t hide their frustrations after David de Gea‘s error-filled performance vs Manchester City.
The Spaniard has fallen short of his high standards this season and it’s no surprise it’s come at a time where his future is up in the air.
De Gea was previously dropped under former manager Louis van Gaal until his contract was extended due to the distraction Real Madrid provided.
It ended up proving to be the correct call as the moment he committed to United, he returned to his best.
Sergio Romero was also fantastic as the back-up goalkeeper then and fans may wish to call upon him once more after David’s latest errors.
This isn’t anything new. De Gea has stated in the past he couldn’t play to LVG because he was too “distracted” with the Real Madrid links so Romero replaced him for a couple of games. pic.twitter.com/Ybcq5Uu3SU

de Gea has been incredibly poor in recent months. We need to say that because it’s the truth. I don’t think we owe any player paid millions to play football anything but as poor as he has been now our recent past would be a lot bleaker without de Gea’s heroics.

People going on like De Gea should be exempt from criticism. We’ve conceded FIFTY goals this season & he’s been at fault for about 20 of them! He’s had a terrible season. He’s been world class from us but he’s above being called out. Especially when others have been slated!

Hard not to conclude that De Gea derailed our season when it came to crunch time. Such a shame, he'd been the best in the world for a couple of years until the world cup.

Some of the mistakes De Gea’s made haven’t been obvious errors but rather have been soft goals to concede or efforts he’d normally save.
No player should be considered undroppable and so if the goalkeeper’s standards have fallen, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer should consider bringing Romero into the starting XI.
Perhaps the Norwegian feels with just a handful of games left in the season, now would not be the ideal time to send a message.
Either way, it’s clear to see David’s future needs to be sorted out as well as a host of other Manchester United stars.
