World Cup winner opens up on Man United transfer rumours

Real Madrid star Raphael Varane has insisted he can’t control what’s said in the media after reports emerged of his unhappiness.

The Frenchman was then linked with a move to Manchester United where it was claimed he would be their star defensive signing for the summer.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is reportedly interested in the full-back positions, right-wing and attacking-midfield but the club’s centre-back positions have been its weakness for some time now.

United are well stocked in that area but Victor Lindelof is believed to be the only solid defender they currently have.

Varane would definitely add some much needed quality but it was previously believed a move would be impossible.

According to Bleacher Report, Raphael said: “To say that I am not happy at Real Madrid is not true. I’m at Real Madrid. The biggest club in the world.

“I’m constantly in a state of challenging myself because the requirement here is that of the highest level. I’m focused on my career.

“We had a tough time in the middle of the season where we had to fight. I’ve given my all in this shirt and I can be proud of that. I cannot control everything that’s said [in the media].

“Many things aren’t right but I can’t say I’m unhappy in Madrid. We had a tough season, it’s the daily routine for players at the top.

“I’m discreet and the problem when you’re a quiet person is you hear many things but talk little about yourself.”

Some believed the reports linking Varane with a move to Old Trafford was just a way of the player winning himself a new deal.

However, he clearly denies any unhappiness so it seems as though it was also just false rumours made up in a bid to add some excitement to the international break.

Perhaps Zinedine Zidane’s return to the Spanish capital has also seen Raphael lose any interest in moving away after the success he enjoyed under the Frenchman before.
