Atletico Madrid defender Diego Godin has aimed an indirect swipe at Chelsea forward Alvaro Morata, as reported on the Metro.
The Spanish striker is currently on loan at Atletico Madrid and started in their UEFA Champions League last 16 second-leg match in Turin.
Diego Simeone’s men squandered a 2-0 first-leg lead and lost the tie 3-2 after a Cristiano Ronaldo hat-trick.
But Godin has hinted that Atletico may still have been in the competition if Morata had provided more of a goal threat. He said:
We couldn’t find a way to hurt them. We defended but conceded goals.
We didn’t look like scoring a goal, which was needed for the tie.
Morata was starting in place of the suspended Diego Costa and Godin was seemingly unhappy with Morata’s contribution.
The striker failed to impress whilst at Chelsea for the first half of the season and manager Maurizio Sarri made the decision to send him out on loan after he acquired Gonzalo Higuain.
With the Blues currently hit by a transfer ban, they may be tempted to call back Morata in the summer for next season.
