Manchester United star Scott McTominay has revealed the main difference between Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Jose Mourinho, hinting his role under the former has been clearer than the latter.
During the Portuguese’s era, many reports surfaced claiming agents had no clue what sort of players the club were looking for, suggesting there was a lack of structure or a clear identity.
Fans were also confused, three seasons in, over what style Mourinho was attempting to play or even what system.
Solskjaer has done things differently, clearly favouring an attacking, direct and pressing tactic using pacy and mobile attackers.
McTominay has featured in recent weeks to great success, playing a huge role in United’s historic win over PSG.
According to Sky Sports, Scott said: “There have been times when it’s been so, so tough, you’re playing out of position and you’re not quite sure exactly how you’re perceived and what your role is going forward.
“But now having played a run of games under Ole it’s been much better. We’ve had some amazing nights and big games as well.
“I just want to keep learning.”
There’s no doubt under Ole the academy players will benefit as he’s keen on pushing through as many youngsters as possible.
That doesn’t mean they’ll all become first-team players for Manchester United but it’s an important tradition nonetheless.
No one knows the true potential of a young player until he’s thrown into the deep-end and so far McTominay is floating rather than sinking.
There are still question marks over his future but if he continues to produce commanding displays then he’ll slot right in.
