Owner of Ligue 1 outfit Lille has dismissed reports that the club’s sporting director Luis Campos is set to join Chelsea.
Campos has built a very stellar reputation for himself in France, having previously been responsible for bringing a host of young talent, including Thomas Lemar, Bernardo Silva and Benjamin Mendy, to Monaco before joining Lille in 2017.
Reports originating in the French media had suggested that the Blues were in talks with Lille over signing their sporting director, with Campos being lined up as a replacement for former technical director Michael Emenalo.
Emenalo resigned from his post at Chelsea in November 2017 after six years in the position, in order to join Monaco where he was sacked last January. Since then, Chelsea hadn’t replaced the Nigerian, with owner Roman Abramovich leaving the daily running of the club to director Marina Granovskaia.
Despite reports linking the club with the move for Campos, Lille owner Gerard Lopez has publicly denied that such a move exists. Talking to ESPN, when asked about the proposed departure, Lopez said:
No, no, no
Speaking to RMC radio, as reported by FourFourTwo, Lopez further clarified his position on Campos’ immediate future, saying:
Luis Campos will be at Lille next season.
Campos’s recruitment has helped Lille enjoy an impressive season, and they currently occupy second spot in Ligue 1 behind runaway leaders PSG.
