Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed Anthony Martial, Nemanja Matic and Ander Herrera are set for a return to the Manchester United squad ahead of Sunday’s meeting with Arsenal.
Martial, along with Jesse Lingard, picked up a muscle injury during the first leg against Paris Saint Germain.
Matic picked up an injury ahead of the 0-0 draw with Liverpool, during which Herrera also sustained a hamstring problem.
Speaking ahead of the clash with Unai Emery’s side, who lost 3-1 at Rennes on Thursday, Solskjaer revealed he expected the trio to return, adding that Eric Bailly’s injury in Paris wasn’t serious.
“Eric’s fine,” he said. “Anthony will be available and hopefully we’ll have Nemanja and/or Ander ready as well, so looking better for it they just need to have another couple of days training with the team, they’ve done their recovery work.”
This is extremely positive news for Solskjaer, who will want to restore his first choice midfield after his second string – Scott McTominay and Fred – produced the performances of their lives against Paris Saint Germain. Asking them to put in performance of similar proportions this weekend may well be a step too far.
Herrera, Matic and the returning Paul Pogba, forced to watch that famous win from the stands, must take control of proceedings at the Emirates like they did in January.
