Chelsea loanee Tammy Abraham limped off for Aston Villa during their 3-0 win over Middlesbrough and boss Dean Smith has revealed the youngster will have a scan on his calf to assess the extent of the injury.
According to football.london, Smith is hopeful the striker’s injury won’t keep him sidelined for too long as Villa continue their late push for promotion back to the Premier League.
Abraham has been a vital player for Smith’s side this season, scoring 21 goals in 32 appearances, and many Blues fans have called for the striker to be given a run in the first team next season.
The 21-year-old has made just two senior appearances for Chelsea but has impressed during loan spells in the Championship for Villa and Bristol City respectively.
However Abraham, who scored 23 goals for Bristol City during the 2016-17 season, could face a spell on the sidelines in what is set to be a crucial run of fixtures for Villa, though Smith remains hopeful it was just a minor problem.
Tammy felt his calf but we are hoping it is cramp or fatigue more than anything. El Ghazi has come off with fatigue, too, because we’ve had three games in six days. It’s too much for me. This game should have been on a Sunday to give us enough time to recover from the games on Wednesday and last Sunday. Tammy will now have a scan before he goes off on international duty.
Abraham will link up with Chelsea teammates Callum Hudson-Odoi, Jake Clarke-Salter, Jay Dasilva and Fikayo Tomori if he is passed fit to feature for England’s Under 21’s against Poland and Germany.
