Player ratings: Man United win ugly, Rashford scores again

David de Gea 6 – Made two very important saves in the second half: firstly from a close-range Jamie Vardy bicycle kick, and then from a powerful free-kick heading for the top corner.

Ashley Young 6 – Gave a disciplined, informed display, manipulating the ball forward from tight areas. Could have produced more going forward.

Eric Bailly 7 – Superb display from the Ivorian. Made his physical presence felt up against Jamie Vardy, refusing the home side room in the box, and even had a few nice moments on the ball.

Victor Lindelof 7 – Another first rate defensive display, replete with good touches and smart positioning. Looks more like a Manchester United player every day.

Luke Shaw 7 – Linked up very nicely with Sanchez, Pogba and Rashford at the start and defended with ferocious energy. Used the ball well on the whole.

Nemanja Matic 6 – Occasionally gaves James Maddison too much room in front of Man United’s defence but the Serbian’s use of the ball was impressive. Made a few clever passes through the lines and put himself on the line.

Ander Herrera 7 – Tenacious as ever. Played a key role in United’s rapid start to the game and was never too far away from the midfield scuffle.

Paul Pogba 6 – Begun the game magnificently, supplying an inch-perfect assist for Marcus Rashford, but will be annoyed with a lacklustre second half. Picked up a knock from a harsh Jonny Evans challenge.

Jesse Lingard 6 – Quietly very useful, making a series of smart runs to open up space, but did not have enough influence with the ball at his feet.

Alexis Sanchez 5 – Produced a performance containing both tidy and sloppy moments on the ball. Could have done a lot more – especially in the second half, during which he angered supporters. Did not get going.

Marcus Rashford 7 – Missed a golden chance early on but made up for it with a fabulous goal, taking the ball down from Pogba’s pass and smashing it past Kasper Schmeichel. Played aggressively up against Leicester’s centre-backs, although did not receive the service he needed after the break.
