Manchester United star Phil Jones has claimed his future at the club isn’t down to him, insisting he wants to stay long-term.
The Englishman is one of a group of the club’s players whose contracts run out this upcoming summer.
Others include the likes of Juan Mata, Ander Herrera and Antonio Valencia, with their future just as much up in the air as well.
With it now being February, even clubs in the Premier League are allowed to make an approach for Jones to sign him for free.
United have risked losing numerous stars for nothing with their being no signs of a breakthrough in negotiations for any of them.
According to Sports Mole, Phil said: “I’m very settled – I’ve been settled for a long time here. Ever since I walked through the door I was made to feel very welcome.
“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time – it’s been great and long may it continue. Of course I do [want to stay] – it’s Man United. This club has been part of my life for many years now.
“I love the club, the fans, the players. We’ll see what happens. It’s not down to me what happens.”
The poor handling of club affairs is bizarre given how some reports claimed United will not buy until they sell some of their own players.
Should they lose those players for free then investing in the summer could prove troublesome.
Whether Jones is to be a part of the club’s future or not he should be handed a contract so they’re able to sell him onwards later on.
The trouble is perhaps getting the centre-back to agree to wages that other clubs won’t feel is out of their budget and so both parties are at a stand-off.
