Gary Neville reveals moment when his opinion on Solskjaer turned

Former Manchester United man Gary Neville has revealed the exact moment his mind changed regarding Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s tenure, pinpointing the Tottenham clash as pivotal.

The Norwegian manager was hired by the club as a caretaker until the summer when they would be more able to hire a long-term successor to Jose Mourinho.

The former Chelsea boss had failed to take United to the next level after having two successful seasons with the board pulling the plug after it seemed impossible to get back into the top four.

Solskjaer has won all but one of his nine matches so far, dragging his former club back into the race for the Champions League qualification spots.

Neville pointed to the Red Devils first real clash under the former Molde man, stating the win over Spurs changed his mind about his former teammate.

According to The Telegraph, Gary said: “The win over Spurs changed my thinking a little bit. He [Solskjaer] got it right and in the first half won the tactical battle

“Yes, in the second half David De Gea made a lot of saves, and Tottenham should probably have equalised, but in the first half he went to a diamond with split strikers.

“It was a risk and I’ve not seen United do that in any game in the last two to three years. So he introduced a new system, a new shape and a new way of playing in his biggest match.

“He did what Manchester United managers should do – he took risks to win and he went for it. I thought it was a big moment that, for Ole.”

No one had anticipated that Ole would do as well as he did and his success so far has meant the Manchester United board have a tougher decision to make than before.

Previously it seemed dead on that they would hire one of the world’s most sought after managers in Mauricio Pochettino but the club legend has changed minds everywhere.
