Sir Alex Ferguson’s former right-hand man Mike Phelan has explained how Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has transformed Manchester United.
The Norwegian was hired by the board as caretaker manager after they sacked Jose Mourinho fairly recently.
Solskjaer then asked Phelan to join the staff in a bid to help United perform once again in order to meet the minimum expectations of a top four finish.
Mauricio Pochettino is said to be the club’s first choice target but should the former Molde manager perform above expectations he could be handed the role on a permanent basis.
Mike has revealed that Ole and the coaching staff have tried to bring the Manchester United of old back again by setting the standards.
@Mike_Phelan_1: “We tried to bring a little bit of Man Utd to Man Utd again. That’s the info we’re giving them, what it means to play for United. It’s not acceptable just to be bang average, you’ve got to be more than that.” #mufc

Whatever the duo have been doing it’s clearly working so far with Solskjaer winning all of the first five games of his short reign as the boss.
Their first real test however comes up against Tottenham following their short warm weather training in Dubai.
Ole opted to take his stars abroad to the same place as Mourinho did last year and it seemed to benefit all those involved.
Hopefully the Red Devils come back refreshed for the second half of the season and pick up all three points against Spurs.
