Alvaro Morata has joined Atletico Madrid on loan after passing a medical with the Spanish side on Sunday, the La Liga side have confirmed.
The 18-month loan deal is believed to be worth £9 million and Atletico have the option to sign Morata on a permanent deal for £48.5 million at the end of the season.
The Spaniard has struggled to settle at Chelsea following his big-money move to Stamford Bridge at the start of last season from Juventus and has been incredibly inconsistent for the Blues despite scoring six goals in his first six Premier League games for the club.
Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri was reunited with his former Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain earlier this week, following the Argentine’s loan move from Juventus, all but confirming Morata’s departure from the club.
The Blues have signed Higuain on an initial loan deal until the end of the season, with an option to either extend the loan for an additional 12 months or sign the striker permanently.
Morata has scored just nine times in 28 appearances this season and is looking to get his career back on track in Madrid.
The Spaniard began his senior career with Atleti’s local rivals Real Madrid before joining Juventus following a loan spell there.
