Just under a year ago Atletico Madrid ended selling one of their top players Yannick Carrasco to Chinese Super League side Dalian Yifang – a shock transfer considering his age and interest from clubs in Europe.
However, according to the Mirror, Arsenal boss Unai Emery is keen for the Belgian, now 25, to return to Europe and sign with the Gunners this month – Carrasco has apparently given ‘approval’ to the move.
The report uses a source from Sky Sports in Italy to suggest that Arsenal have made contact with the player and his representatives and have been given indications that a transfer is indeed doable in January.
News of the player’s interest in coming to north London will be a boost as rivals Manchester United and Italian giants AC Milan both are monitoring the situation.
The sticking point for any move could be the wages of the Belgian – he is currently earning a reported £170,000 a-week in China, so either Arsenal are going to stump up the same or in excess of that or hope that the player can lower his wage demands to move to the Premier League.
Having played just 26 games for Dalian Yifang in under a year, Yannick Carrasco scored seven and assisted nine. The majority of his career he has played on the left-side of midfield scoring 31 and assisting 34 times, but when deployed (rarely) as a centre-forward he has impressed scoring four in eight.
