Maurizio Sarri has revealed that Ruben Loftus-Cheek will be staying put in January.
The midfielder has found first-team football hard to come by this season, but has impressed in the opportunities granted to him by his manager.
With superb performances in the Europa League and Carabao Cup, the 22-year-old has convinced Chelsea fans that he does have a future at the club.
Having spent last season on loan at Crystal Palace, Loftus-Cheek fought his way into England’s World Cup squad, where he again captured the minds of the nation.
Under Sarri however, chances at Premier League football have been sparse. The Lewisham-native has four appearances in the league, all coming from the substitutes bench.
When asked if his man would be on the move come January – either on loan or permanently – Sarri is quoted by the Daily Mirror as saying:
No. I want him to stay with me, to stay with us. I think there is no chance,
… it’s very difficult to find a central midfielder technically like Fabregas. So I think they [Loftus-Cheek and Andreas Christensen] have to stay for us.
With the festive period approaching, matches will be coming thick and fast for the Blues, suggesting Loftus-Cheek could be about to see more football on England’s biggest stage.
