Juan Mata summed up Manchester United’s terrible morale under Jose Mourinho by stating it was “not the time for posts” in his weekly blog.
Mourinho’s men have endured a miserable week after the international break, drawing Premier League games against Crystal Palace and Southampton alongside frustrating supporters with their performance during the 1-0 win over Young Boys in the Champions.
Defeat to Arsenal would leave Man United 11 points off the top four and with a goal difference even worse than -1.
Writing in his weekly blog, Mata succinctly summed up the mood among supporters, writing only a quick message of gratitude to United’s supporters.
“Unfortunately, I feel as though it isn’t the time for posts,” he wrote.
“I imagine, and understand completely, that you will not want to read words that, although honest, won’t be of much comfort to you. Therefore, I am only going to publish this to thank you all, as ever, for your support. Thanks a lot.”
No hugs. When Mata is not thinking about hugs, you know something is terribly wrong in the camp. It should be illegal for anything or anyone to do something which makes Mata upset.
Forget the tactical shortcomings and the ponderous, desperate performances. The lack of confidence – of belief in the direction they are heading – is perhaps the most fatal thing for this team.
