Unai Emery has revealed whether or not he thinks Arsenal are title contenders after Sunday’s North London Derby win (via Arsenal.com).
It was a famous win for the Gunners as they beat Spurs 4-2 at the Emirates in Unai Emery’s first North London Derby.
The win felt like more than three points for many Arsenal fans who were more than impressed with how their side performed on the day.
Before their match against Manchester United on Wednesday, head coach Unai Emery was asked whether he thinks his side are serious title contenders.
“At the moment, one thing is clear: some teams have an advantage [over] us. One is very clear, it’s Manchester City,” Emery told the press.
“The difference between their points and our points. But also for the goals and conceding goals, there’s a big difference to us.
“Another difference [is] between Liverpool and our moments [which are] not very big, but I think it’s an important difference also. With the performances, with the points, with the goals scored and conceded, we are the same as Chelsea and Tottenham – that’s the reality.
“I want us to do one way, to think about the possibility – maybe not this year because it’s difficult – but [in time], to approach one title here with the team. It’s about progress, improving and our demands.”
It would be brilliant if Arsenal were serious title contenders but Manchester City are just a step above every other team in the Premier League right now. Liverpool are ahead of the Gunners right now too but with a few smart additions then there’s no reason why Arsenal can’t close that gap in the next year or so.
