Manchester United star Ashley Young has denied reports that the players celebrated Jose Mourinho’s sacking.
Some sections of the media went as far as claiming Paul Pogba said the Portuguese manager messed with the wrong player referring to their reported clashes.
Alexis Sanchez and Marcos Rojo were also said to have a £20k bet on Mourinho’s future but the Chilean has also since denied the accusations.
Young was often a favourite of the former Real Madrid boss who used him to the full extent of his versatility as he played in both full-back positions and occasionally as a winger.
The Englishman also featured in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first game in charge and could make himself a mainstay once again.
According to Manchester Evening News, Ashley said: “No celebration at all. Absolute lies. Obviously it was disappointing for the manager to get sacked.
“In his two-and-a-half years, he won trophies. We have to take some responsibility for that [his sacking] as we are on the pitch.
“Like I said. we have to move on from that. Ole has come in and we were preparing in the right way for a game even though it’s been a crazy week, but as professional players we have to get on with the job in hand and that is what we did today.”
It’s early days in Solskjaer’s reign but if the 5-1 win over Cardiff City is an indication of anything then there’s plenty more bright days on the horizon.
The Norwegian only has six months to make his mark if he wishes to change his caretaker role into a permanent one.
Thankfully he has a relatively easy set of fixtures initially with games against Huddersfield, Bournemouth and Newcastle all coming up.
However, later on in March he’ll have to face PSG, Arsenal and Manchester City all in a row which could prove to be a season defining moment.
