Ander Herrera is keen to stay at Manchester United but is willing to listen to offers if the club cannot agree terms with him, according to ESPN.
Herrera, 29, can talk to clubs outside of the Premier League about any potential summer transfer because deal expires at the end of the season and he will be available on a free transfer.
Given he hasn’t had a regular role in Man United’s starting XI this season under Jose Mourinho, it wouldn’t come as too much of a surprise to United fans if he opened discussions with other clubs. That being said, I for one would like to see United keep Herrera at the club.
At a time when so much is being questioned about the belief and desire of this United squad, Herrera plays for the shirt he’s wearing. It might sound like a futile and irrelevant point to some but to me I’ve got an affinity towards Herrera, more so than most of this United squad. Selfishly, that’s why I would like to see him stay.
Plus, when it comes to recruitment, United are bad enough signing new players let alone replacing them. I would rather see United’s squad continue to strengthen in depth than let Herrera go, especially before an adequate replacement came in. Take one look at what happened when we sold Cristiano Ronaldo as a prime example of United failing to replace.
Here’s hoping United can sort Herrera’s new contract situation before he leaves on a free transfer this summer but if he does indeed leave, then United simply have to replace him properly in the squad. Now is not the time for being frugal with Manchester City and Liverpool flying so high.
