Player Ratings: Woeful United offer nothing in must-win game Palace

David de Gea 6 – Challenged rarely, as often in these kind of games for United where both they and the opposition fail to create chances.

Matteo Darmian 5 – Offered nothing in attack but defensively solid, unlike Antonio Valencia who was sat on the bench for a 53rd consecutive day without playing for the Reds.

Victor Lindelof 6 – So much more composed in defence than his various counterparts. Takes the ball and his first instinct is to look forward for an incisive pass, rather than backwards towards his own goalkeeper. Continuing to develop in a United shirt.

Chris Smalling 6 – Let Palace rip apart United at times and headed down past the left post when he could have put United in front in the first half.

Ashley Young 5 – Can occasionally send defenders flying the wrong way with quick feet and delivered some good crosses but his positioning is poor and his crossing inconsistent at best. Luke Shaw will be welcomed back on Tuesday against Valencia.

Nemanja Matic 5 – Misplacing passes, losing possession and offering nothing creatively. Typical of Matic’s season.

Paul Pogba 6 – Sloppy at times, as we so often see from Pogba in this type of game against smaller sides. However, behind a lot of the chances that United did create. Subbed for Alexis Sanchez.

Juan Mata 5 – The Spaniard can often provide something different in these games, but failed to do so on Saturday.

Jesse Lingard 5 – Some nice hold-up play and combinations with Pogba but couldn’t finish the chances he did get. Subbed, although that doesn’t represent his performance which had some definite positives.

Anthony Martial 5 – Some exciting moments but couldn’t get the space required to really get at Palace. United too reliant on his talent.

Romelu Lukaku 5 – Hold-up play was poor and although he tapped home an offside goal, he can’t consider that a good performance. Lukaku makes United stodgy.
