Manchester United are monitoring the progress of Gremio striker Everton Soares, according to ESPN‘s Rob Dawson.
The 22-year-old forward, who can play down the middle and on the left, has scored 17 goals in 2018 and earned a place in the Brazil senior squad.
Uncertainty over the striker position at Old Trafford has emerged in recent weeks amid the poor form of Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez, with the latter said to be contemplating leaving Man United.
And according to Dawson, writing in an exclusive, Soares has emerged as a potential January candidate and would cost United around £30m to extract from Brazil.
Mourinho played with the idea of moving for a striker in the summer. Journalist Gianluca di Marzio revealed he had expressed a desire to sign Mario Mandzukic from Juventus, only for the Croat to categorically rule out leaving Turin.
Soares, on the other hand, feels more like a potential replacement for what Sanchez was meant to bring to the team: fast, technically clever attacking play in and around the box to bring the likes of Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard into more dangerous positions.
That said, Mourinho’s emphasis will nonetheless continue to be firmly on securing another central defender.
