Manchester United are to begin talks with Marcus Rashford over a brand new deal worth £150,000-a-week, according to reports.
The 21-year-old, who has made five Premier League starts this season, has a current contract which stands at around £75,000-a-week and lasts until 2020.
He made an explosive start to his senior career as an 18-year-old under Louis van Gaal but his stock has risen further since having retained his place in the Man United team and played at two major tournaments.
And according to the Daily Star‘s Jeremy Cross, United are keen to fend off the lure of potential suitors by nailing down the Manchester-born youngster with a lucrative contract which would double his wages at the club.
Ed Woodward views Rashford as one of four players – the others being Jesse Lingard, Luke Shaw and Anthony Martial – who he would never consider selling. Jose Mourinho, amid some criticism for his use of the forward, has constantly stressed that Rashford was fundamental to his plans at Old Trafford.
Both Juventus and Real Madrid have been linked with the Englishman but the idea of United letting such a highly rated homegrown player leave feels decidedly far-fetched. Rashford – just like Lingard in 2017 – deserves recognition for his achievements in Manchester with a contract boost.
