Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata has deemed the club’s current style of play ‘perfect’, as he has undergone a radical transformation in the Premier League this season.
Speaking to Gazzetta Dello Sport, as cited on Goal, the Spanish forward endured a difficult first season at Stamford Bridge. Despite being among the goals in 2017-18, he stated that there was a complete lack of confidence on his part.
Fortunately, the 26-year-old is a reformed man in a blue shirt nowadays, stating that his five goals in eight league games are due to Maurizio Sarri’s tactical approach.
I was told that he’s a coach who plays very well with the ball and loves tactical work, but he also has a good personal relationship with the players. Sarri knows perfectly the difference between the various moments in the life of a squad: when you need to work, he’s like a general and is the first to set the example. When it’s time to joke, he can have you dying of laughter. That’s all reflected in the group.
We haven’t lost yet and that’s good because the competition is tough in the Premier League. His system is perfect for me, almost all the balls come to me when I’m in front of goal, and it’s much better than when I was playing with my back to goal and had to turn around – that’s not my game.
The final statement appears to draw relations to Morata’s time under Antonio Conte at Chelsea when he also suffered such confidence issues. The previous Juventus and Italy boss was linked heavily to the Real Madrid job, which has now been filled by Santiago Solari.
Whether a direct aim or not, Morata appears a renewed striker of late, notably scoring a league brace at home to Crystal Palace almost a fortnight ago. In fact, he has not lost in a Chelsea shirt since the 2-0 defeat to Manchester City in the Community Shield.
