Granit Xhaka has admitted that it was a clear foul in the run-up to the second penalty Arsenal conceded on Sunday afternoon (via Arsenal.com).
It was disappointing to see Arsenal’s winning run come to an end on Sunday afternoon with that 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace.
Granit Xhaka and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s goals were sandwiched by two penalties for Crystal Palace.
Xhaka may have scored a fine free-kick but his hard work was undone when he brought down Wilfried Zaha for the second penalty. And now, the Swiss international has given his thoughts.
“It’s difficult,” Xhaka admitted after the match.
“I think it’s a clear penalty because I touched his knee, so the referee gave a penalty.
“We know it’s always difficult to play at Palace. It was difficult a year ago. It’s football and we know we can’t win all the games.
“We tried our best and although it was not our best performance, one point here is alright and we’ll take the positive things from this game. We’ll look forward.”
It was a clear penalty even if Wilfried Zaha exaggerated the tackle. Arsenal can only blame themselves for the catalogue of errors in the run-up to the second penalty. Granit Xhaka was foolish to make the tackle but he wouldn’t have been in that position had the Gunners retained possession up the pitch or had Shkodran Mustafi committed a professional foul.
