Paris Saint-Germain are closely monitoring David de Gea’s situation at Manchester United with the goalkeeper’s contract expiring soon.
The 27-year-old will be out of contract officially at the end of the summer, although a one-year extension clause will be triggered imminently by the Reds.
De Gea signed a long-term deal at Old Trafford in September 2015 after coming close to signing for Real Madrid a couple of weeks previously.
The Spaniard looked nailed on to join the club of his home city but late paperwork failures meant the deal fell through and De Gea committed his future to Man United immediately after.
That deal expires in the summer and although there is an automatic one-year extension that can be triggered by the club, speculation over De Gea’s future is now mounting.
Simply the fact that it has got to this stage will be a concern for United fans. The Daily Mail also now reports that Ligue 1 champions PSG are set to attempt a major move for De Gea if he does indeed continue to snub United.
It had been thought that Real Madrid’s signing of Chelsea shot-stopper Thibaut Courtois would inadvertently secure De Gea’s long term future at United. However, PSG’s interest mean there is now another club who could offer De Gea money and trophies and a great city to live in nearer his home.
The Mail’s report, though, contrasts with claims of the Manchester Evening News at the weekend that United have ‘never been more confident’ of their goalkeeper penning a new contract.
