Gary Neville doesn’t believe Chelsea can win the Premier League this year.
The Sky Sports pundit cast his eye over the upper-echelons of the table, and saw only two genuine title challengers – Liverpool and Manchester City.
Neville said (quoted by the Daily Mirror):
[Chelsea] have started the season well. But after eight games I still think it’s very early to think about Chelsea challenging [Manchester City or Liverpool].
Neville’s colleague Graeme Souness then piled in on the discussion, saying:
I maintain that Chelsea, if they had an out-and-out ‘goal-getter’ they could join these two [Liverpool and City],
Without Hazard they don’t have as much threat. Both of these two have more players that can threaten.
It will be between one of Liverpool and City. Don’t write Chelsea out but they need a real ‘goal-getter’.
Despite winning six of their first eight games, it seems the Blues haven’t done enough to convince the pundits that they’re ready to mount a title challenge.
Antonio Conte climbed the mountain in his first year in charge at Stamford Bridge, and fans will eagerly await to see if Maurizio Sarri can emulate the feat.
