Juventus sporting director Fabio Paratici has insisted that the Italian club are not interested in re-signing Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba.
The Frenchman left the club to return to Manchester for £89 million in the summer of 2016. He had initially moved to Turin on a free transfer as he sought more game time away from Man United.
Pogba’s relationship with United boss Jose Mourinho appears frosty of late and the World Cup winner had the vice-captaincy removed from him a couple of weeks ago. Interest from La Liga champions FC Barcelona has been made clear and obvious, and the Spanish club’s defender Gerard Pique and forward Luis Suarez have both spoken of Pogba’s quality. So, too, has one of their directors.
Juventus, though, were quick to deny any interest in Pogba, which can only be a positive for United fans.
“We love him very much,” Paratici, who runs Juventus’ transfer business, said about Pogba at the Manlio Scopigno awards recently.
“We’re connected to him, but we’ve never thought about it and we’re not going to think about it.”
Many believe that the only viable option for Pogba would be Paris Saint-Germain. He grew up just an hour’s journey from the Ligue 1 champions’ stadium as a kid.
Barcelona are unlikely to be able to afford Pogba given their current high wage bill and lack of profit.
Juventus being taken out of the equation could make Pogba re-consider but it seems certain he’ll leave unless Mourinho does first.
